(Beijing, December 19) Hong Kong China whitewashed Europe 3-0 in the match vying for the runners-up of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Table Tennis International Invitational Tournament at the Peking University Gymnasium this evening.

Tie Yana, Zhang Rui and Lin Ling of Hong Kong China came to the silver decider with a 1-1 record while their European counterparts Tamara Boros of Croatia, Germans Zhenqi Barthel and Wu Jiaduo finished two losses.

Tie Yana beats Wu Jiaduo 3-0

Tie gained a 5-0 lead early in the first set and played energetically to win 11-5.

Wu took a series of attack points on Tie's backhand leading 5-1 into the second. The world No. 9 Tie set her form to rally 9-8 and made 11-9 against Wu who ranks No.17.

Trailing 3-0 in the third, Wu was reluctant to keep up with Tie's pace, losing 11-6.

Lin Ling defeats Zhenqi Barthel 3-1

Zhenqi Barthel who ranks only No. 104 in the world had reached the top four of the U-21 event at the recent Pro Tour Grand Finals, but her rival Lin Ling was not in form at the Grand Finals, losing 4-1 to China's Guo Yan in the first round.

The German opened the game with 5-2 but the lack of experience made her kept up with and rallied. Lin won the first 11-9.

More exchange drives were made in the second set with Lin having several faults to fall at 7-3. Sun took the opportunity to win 11-5.

The score was tied from 2-2 to 6 all in the third until Lin Ling met the set point and took it 11-9 with the ensuing off return by Barthel.

The fourth went on without suspicion as Lin triumphed 11-5.

Zhang Rui/Tie Yana crush Tamara Boros/Zhenqi Barthel 3-0

It proved a match wouldn't last long between the two pairs as Zhang and Tie soon took the first set 11-4.

The Europeans managed to make the score stay close before a tie at 9 each, but Barthel's faults buried their attempt, Europe receiving a 11-9 defeat.

Despite making several unforced errors, the duo from Hong Kong China kept their advantage in the third, concluding 11-9 to take the silver.
